On May 23, the University of New England announced the closure of its Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC), the only such facility in Maine. With this closure, Marine Mammals of Maine (MMoME), an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to responding to and assisting stranded marine mammals from Kittery to Rockland, is now faced with very limited access to rehabilitation services out of state.
MMoME’s Executive Director and Board of Directors are working diligently to find solutions to this situation. We appreciate all the support shown by volunteers and members of the public, and we appreciate your patience as we deal with the shortage of rehabilitation services through our busiest season.
