We’ve been fortunate to be able to offer a sneak peak inside our facility a few times recently. We always want to share what we’re up to and how your support makes a difference so we’re grateful to Maine Public and Down East Magazine for helping us to spread the word to a wider audience.
Down East Magazine
Pick up the November 2023 issue, which is on stands now, to read more about some of our responses related to human interactions. A special thank you to Alix Morris, who wrote this article, for spending a great deal of time with our team to truly understand some of the situations that we respond to. Alix unveils the raw reality of harbor seal pupping season, offering honest details that don’t always get shared.
Borealis
Maine Public’s new outdoor series, Borealis, recently featured a visit to our rehabilitation facility during pup season. You can watch the video here to get a taste of the sights and sounds during our busiest time of year.
We also welcomed a staff member from Senator Susan Collins’ office to our facility to share more about the work that we do for marine mammal and sea turtle health and conservation. We talked about the valuable data that we collect and share with the scientific community, which contributes to federal-level conversations relating to marine mammals. With the changing ocean environment we strive to advocate for marine mammals at the federal level, ensuring the role they play in this critical habitat is considered by policymakers and that they have a voice at the table.
